Arjun Infrastructure Partners (“Arjun”) and Aberdeen Investments (“Aberdeen”) have announced their increased shareholding in portfolio company Onivia, now holding 40% each while Macquarie Capital (“Macquarie”) remains invested with a 20% holding. All three firms will continue to co-control Onivia.
Onivia was established in 2019 as Spain’s first independent fibre network operator following Macquarie and Aberdeen’s acquisition of a fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network with one million homes from MasMovil, bringing greater consumer choice to Spain’s five largest cities. The company has since expanded nationwide, doubling in size with the acquisition of a majority stake in a rural FTTH network. This strategic growth extended Onivia’s reach, enabling it to deliver ultrafast, reliable broadband to both urban and non-urban communities.
Arjun first acquired a stake in Onivia from Macquarie in 2022, recognising the firm as a high-quality digital asset investment opportunity.
In 2024, the consortium further expanded Onivia’s footprint with the acquisition of a major FTTH network from DIGI Spain Telecom S.L.U (“DIGI”), increasing Onivia’s coverage to more than 10 million homes across 12 provinces - more than a third of all households in Spain. As the country’s largest independent wholesale FTTH operator, Onivia continues to drive market competition by providing high-quality broadband access to a growing network of large and regional ISPs.
Rohini Pahwa, Partner at Arjun Infrastructure Partners, commented: “Increasing our share in Onivia, alongside Aberdeen, underscores our long-term commitment in supporting the growth and expansion of Spain’s broadband infrastructure. We look forward to working closely with Onivia’s management team, Aberdeen and Macquarie Capital, to further strengthen the company’s position as the country’s leading independent wholesale fibre platform, delivering prime connectivity to millions of households."
